Lagoon: A Genre Spanning Video Platform from Mahogany Sessions, Supports New Artists

Having been cooking in the lockdown oven since 2020, Flabbergast are proud to present Lagoon, a new genre spanning music and lifestyle video platform from Mahogany Sessions, to support fresh up and coming music talent in the Jazz, Neo-Soul, Pop, alternative, Indie and RnB genres.  Featuring live performance sessions from signed and independent artists, the platform also serves as a source of education via interviews, visual inspiration, wellness tips, fashion, charity support, social change and more on a regular basis. Lagoon reflects and supports the values of a new generation of music fans; amplifying individuality, inclusivity, inspiration, and positivity.At Mahogany we want to create as many platforms and avenues as possible to showcase musical talent that NEEDS to be seen/heard.’ Mark Murdoch.  The first round of live sessions was kicked off by Atlantic Records new signing Karl Benjamin premiered the series with FRIENDS on Mahogany’s YouTube channel to 850k subscribers, and has already amassed 100k views. Followed by Polydor’s Finn Askew, independent artists Josh Barry, Beka and more. With more to come, including Dreya Mac. Identifying an opportunity to use the platform to raise funds for youth charity Small Green Shoots, a campaign is launching which will see 7 artists’ exclusive Lagoon session inspired Tshirt designs go on sale via Keep Hush’s merch service, with all funds going to charity. The partnership will also see some young shoots having opportunities to gain experience on set of a music video, and post production.    Lagoon aims to partner with others with the same values to help nurture artists online and offline, working with new environments and options open to artists, post-Covid19.

After Mahogany was awarded funding for their innovative idea of launching a music platform focused on spotlighting up and coming artists in the jazz, indie, alt pop and RnB genres, Flabbergast was commissioned to launch the platform across social media for the first round of music sessions. This included;

  • Social media strategy – launching new accounts for the brand on Instagram, TIKTOK, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, website and mailing list with a Gen-Z audience in mind. Carrying out market research prior to inform decisions. Developing tone of voice catered to the audience. 
  • Content strategy – amplifying all content captured to ensure maximum exposure to the audience, telling the story of the brand, musician and educating on key topics along the way. Creating new format ideas to communicate brand values and showcase talent. 
  • Content creation – creating brand assets to weave in to the social plan alongside hero content, including Instagram guides, stories, TIKTOKs and Spotify playlists. Recruiting a TIKTOK specialist to be the face of the brand. 
  • Creative commissioning – sourcing a stylist for shoots to bring an extra element of fashion and consistency to content, commissioning BTS videographers for session shoots to capture additional social media formats.  
  • Partnerships – introducing the brand to key partners such as YouTube, Lad Bible, Spotify, TIKTOK, GuapMag, Small Green Shoots, Merch Service (Keep Hush), The Basement and more. 
  • Social media management / management liaison – sharing plans with artist managers around video launches to amplify sharing opportunities, requesting additional content from artists to support their launch, community engagement, brand content, reporting stats and growth.
